Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas - Book Review

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas - Book Review by Vivian Mae

Synopsis

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go. He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work. I have to stop this. It can’t happen. My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable. Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one. I am.

PIKE

I took her in, because I thought I was helping. As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.

But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight. And her boyfriend’s father. Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

Hello friends and lovers!

It’s book review time and I’m excited to share this one with you!

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas is an age gap forbidden romance that centers around Jordan. After an unfortunate circumstance, Jordan’s boyfriend Cole lands in jail therefore leading him to move into his Dad’s house with Jordan.

The great opening scene with Jordan and Pike is when we see her going to the movies. She’s alone and waiting on her boyfriend, who doesn’t show up. Pike is there along watching a movie and by the drop of her cellphone, the two end up talking. This scene is MAGNIFICENT! I mean, you can feel the energy between the two character’s from scene one.

The rest is a cluster of WHEN, WHERE, and HOW!? This is one of my all time favorite reads and although I don’t re-read books, this is one that I would. Each page had my heart fluttering and vibrating with so much intensity and love for these two. The angst and anticipation of Jordan and Pike, when would they get together? Will is be when he’s watching her through a window as she plays in the pool with her friends? The desire they both had for one another and the choices they made were clear and I rooted for these two the entire time. The ENTIRE time I was at the edge of my seat, reading past midnight, because ONE MORE CHAPTER PLEASE! Ugh! It was the BEST!

I hate to give spoilers, so I’ll keep this brief, but these two were everything. Jordan and her childhood and the woman she grew up to be, she deserved it ALL. Pike, the man who sacrificed so much for his son, he deserved it ALL!

They deserve one another and their love story is one for the ages! I want this made into a movie!

What I Enjoyed:

  • The forbidden aspect of Jordan who is falling for her boyfriend’s hot Dad, like WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello Pike Lawson, please step right up. You’re my newest book boyfriend.

Rating: 💋💋💋💋💋/ 5

Steamy Rating: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥/ 5

  • This one was off the charts! It has dirty and sexy language, I fucking love it so much. The forbidden aspects really fucks up my brain and it’s even more turned on than if it wasn’t forbidden. Thank you! FIVE STEAMS ALL THE WAY!

Blurb:

He loved me like a sister, and that alone made me want to die. Parker Jones was not only New York's fiercest lawyer, but my childhood best friend and truest love.

Moving in together was supposed to be a dream come true, but doing so because my business failed was a nightmare.

Out of options—both with love and money— my future depended on the most important interview of my life.

Never could I have expected how missing that single opportunity could land me in the lap of Hollywood's baddest boy, Alex Rivers.
