How to Create a Writing Schedule

How to create a writing schedule

Hello friends and lovers!

Need a writing schedule? Something that you can stick to? Oftentimes, we find ourselves thinking about wanting to write, but don’t sit down to do it. Maybe we need to find a timeframe to fit our writing into our everyday routine. I know for me, that is exactly how I work. I love routine (most of the time) and how it keeps be on track.

I’m sharing how I created my writing schedule and how I stick to it.

Write Your Goal

Goals are healthy to have, at least achievable ones. If you know you are an overachiever, write a realistic goal that you want to conquer. For myself, I have a 1,000 words a day and stick to it. However, the more I have been writing and meeting my goal, the easier it has been to surpass it on a daily basis. Should I bump up my daily goal? Probably, but I have an overachiever type of mindset, so surpassing the 1k and having a 3k day feels great! There are days when I hit the 1k, which is great. Those are my slow days where I’m swamped with my full time job and can’t give my full attention to writing that day.

Daytime vs. Night Time Writing

Determine when you write consistently. Is it during the day, night time? Is it in between your kid’s nap time? For myself, it is between 8pm-10pm that I write the best. There are times where I write between 7:30am-8:00am. That’s normally if I feel awake enough to think after my workout, and prior to starting my full time job at 8am. Usually 8pm-10pm works the best for me.

Planner

All right, don’t roll your eyes on this one. Planners are great! I have a planner and a whiteboard that I like to use. My whiteboard keeps my start word count and end word count of the day. Including my goal and total word count achieved. Then at the end of the week, I transfer the data to my planner. My brain likes to see the progress, so writing it down motivates me!

Consistency Is Key

My mantra is: Commitment, Consistency, Change. If you’re a fan, save the artwork below and share! I created this mantra a couple years ago while I was taking a class. Each word is powerful on its own, but all together… it truly creates a mantra that can help change your life! Consistency is key when it comes to writing, this can be applied toward anything at all, but it is very effective for writers. New, seasoned, any writer, any entrepreneur, anybody!
