Yours to Bare by Jessica Hawkins

Synopsis

Finn
No matter how cruel it's been to me in the past, I've never been able to flip fate the bird. I'm a romantic at heart. So when fate drops a leather-bound journal at my feet, I know I should walk away.I don't. I pick her up, bend her spine, spread her pages. From the first word, I'm a goner. The owner didn't give me access to her most intimate desires, but I devour them anyway. Her private darkness, her candid, explicit poetry-it all goes down like warm milk. And from that point forward, I drink, eat, and sleep her.

Halston
I went to his apartment and let him take my picture. Just once, to see how it would feel. I'm not his to look at, to inspire, to touch, but when he watches me through his lens, it gives me a high I don't want to come down from...My journal is the one place I can be myself-as long as I can tie it up and put it away when I'm finished. But when Finn undoes the bow, he pulls strings that could unravel each of us.Yours to Bare can be read as a standalone or as book three in the Slip of the Tongue series.

Finn and Halston. I’m happy Finn received his own story after reading book 1 of the series. The romances are stand alone, but his character made glorious return.

Learning about Finn has been an absolute joy I didn’t know I needed, he is a man who follows his dreams, has faults, and is all into signs and fate. This is what book boyfriends are made from, seriously! To top it off, he’s a photographer who Halston is intrigued by and gets more involved in with a secret fantasy she’d had.

hot boyfriend who photographs hot girlfriend? I’m all for it. Let’s take clothing out of the picture, you’ve got all my attention.

This story was sweet, a slight roller coaster, a bit predictable. However predictability isn’t a bad thing when the author you’re reading has a way with words and you sink into the reality of each character. We learn about how Halston has an unhealthy and toxic relationship with her boyfriend, Rich and her father. Seeing her grow from a young mindset to a more mature mindset was refreshing.

‘The sex scenes? Very steamy, but one in particular, I didn’t realize that a chat room conversation with a stranger and having your boyfriend touch you in ways a stranger thinks of… it’s beyond hot! I’m keeping the steamy rating at a 4 for this one. I loved the book! I reserve my 5 stars for books that are…. like HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FUCKING GOOD.

Which reminds me, I need to create my book rating scale to add to every blog post.

yup.

What I Enjoyed:

  • The creative fantasy that Finn and Halston played out, wasn’t like anything I’ve read before and yet I fell in love again with the surprises that Jessica Hawkins puts into her books to liven up the mood or moment in time between two characters who are starting to fall in love.
