Burning Little Secrets - Chapter 1-3 Sample
Hello friends and lovers!
It’s finally the time to share Burning Little Secrets - Chapter 1 with you all. It’s been quite the ride and journey and I want you all to know… I’ve learned patience on a whole new level.
How?
Well, I first advertised sending out a sample of chapter 1 of Burning Little Secrets last year. I began writing in September, it took me a month to complete my first draft, and in October I was advertising that I’d be sharing Chapter 1 as a sample.
WHAT!
Ok, if you’ve been on this journey with me, you’ll know that I had to pull the plug quickly on that idea.
Why?
Well, sometimes I have a habit of being overly excited that I dive into things head first without truly thinking. The funny part is, between my first and third draft, the story almost took a complete 180 to be what it is today. Plots were much different, and that’s something I’ll share down the road with my newsletter subscribers as deleted content. (Which, if you haven’t subscribed and want access to exclusive news, please be sure to sign up by clicking here.)
Could you imagine if I dove in and sent out my first draft of chapter 1? Honestly, thinking of it makes me cringe internally. I have to thank my husband to for helping me pull the brakes on that idea.
He’s more of a I’m-going-to-think-for-a-million-years-before-I-can-make-an-informed-decision, type of guy. We balance one another out.
Without further ado! I’ll share a page 1 piece on this post and then below you can claim your sample. Or claim it first, totally up to you!
As a refresher, please check out my beautiful book cover! I teared up just a bit when my designer gave it back to me. I’m an emotional person!
Julia
When my best friend Eve invited me to visit her and my dad back home in North Carolina, I hesitated. My wedding with Robbie was only a week away, and our rocky relationship was already on edge. Even though it was a bad time to go back, I couldn’t resist the chance to visit my best friend—both to sort out my own feelings and escape from Robbie’s increasingly controlling behavior.
Never could I have imagined how this quick trip and an innocent night of freedom could have spiraled out of control. Meeting Nathan wasn’t supposed to happen, and I definitely wasn’t supposed to kiss him. But he was so kind and sexy, and it was so nice to feel wanted for once. But, as soon as I came to my senses and ran from our kiss, I bumped into the one person I never expected. My trip away is now a harbor of secrets, created by those close to me, and my new found taste for freedom.
Nathan
When I saw Julia watching me at the bar, I felt something I hadn’t felt in years. When I kissed her, I knew she was meant to be mine. But this Robbie guy she was with, he seemed to have some pull over her, something I couldn’t understand. I hated how he treated her, and I knew she deserved better.
So, when she offered me the time she had left, I decided to take it, showing her the side of freedom she only dreamed of. Our connection, our chemistry—it was undeniable. I wanted her to leave Robbie; I wanted her to be with me. But, when it came down to it, what I really wanted was for her to be happy. But could I keep her close while keeping my demons at bay? The things I’ve done, the person I once was, and all my little secrets. I’ll fight to keep her home, to make her mine, even if it takes a little naughty convincing.
