The King of the Underworld saved me from the streets, Treated me like a princess, And locked me in a tower. Then he turned into a beast. There's a darkness in him. I've seen it face to face. He says I'm his light. But if our love is going to last, I'm going to have to be more than his princess. I need to become a Queen.
Hello friends and lovers,
I came across this trilogy one night of searching through my new found Kindle membership that came with Amazon Prime. I know, I had no idea after months of having Prime that Kindle would have unlimited books that I could read. This review is based purely on my opinion and the overall trilogy. If you have yet to read it, just know there are spoilers ahead.
First off… The King of the Underworld is fucking hot! (😅 that’s off my chest)
This trilogy was one that I quickly gobbled up. From a free read to owning the entire trilogy, I finished it within a couple months, but it was one I easily devoured late at night. I’m a huge fan of Dark Romance Novels and this was exactly what I was looking for.
Marcus and Cora are quite opposite and truly embody the “opposites attract” mantra. Cora is a naive young girl who fled to the big bad city of New Olympus. Leaving behind the big bad wolf called her Mother, she comes across her savior, Marcus. He saves her one night from a predator who preyed on her innocence. Unknowingly, she is caught in a trap of one of the biggest monsters New Olympus has to offer. Or is he? Marcus is known as the King of the Underworld, which he despises. He has a code within his family with gives him some morality. However, he woes Cora and makes her weak in the knees. Oh innocent Cora, how she fell hard for the hot bastard.
The best part of this series, aside from their chemistry? Well, it’s the twist and turns the trilogy provides. Cora accepts sweet Marcus’ proposal and the two marry, but to her demise… he reveals his dark hidden agenda. Cora belongs to the Titan family, who happened to be feuding with Marcus’ family in the past and his Mother, Sister, and Father were killed. Seeking pure revenge on innocent Cora, he tortures her emotionally and physically. From one fucked up cage to another, although I would say it’s an upgraded cage, she lives in a penthouse with Marcus, but locked away none the less. Their sex is incredible, although Cora is a virgin we see that she quickly becomes accustomed to being Marcus’ sex slave, essentially.
However…
He starts to fall in love with her. He’s in denial for the longest time, which places a wedge between them. Throughout the series, we see Cora transform from a young naive girl, to a blossoming Queen who reins with Marcus at the end of the series. The multiple characters involved in their lives are carefully written and I truly cared about each and every one. Even if Cora did have certain peers around her that were not the best influence or even if she had to shake off a body guard or two while she tried running away multiple times, their love was undeniable romantic. At first, it was aggressive, because he enslaved the poor girl. Sex scenes were still pretty steamy, because no matter what she always enjoyed herself.
Rating: 💋💋💋💋 / 5
Steamy Rating: 💋💋💋💋.5 / 5
I rate this a 4/5, because I’m saving my 5 and because I gobbled the whole trilogy up! I really enjoyed seeing the character’s love grow for one another over the series. They grew individually as well. It was nice to see Cora become a strong woman, I mean a strong Queen!
