Short Story #1 - The Dinner Party
Hello friends and lovers,
Short stories are a wonderful way to allow yourself the range of creativity you need. In my case, I just finished my first draft of my novel, and I intend to write a couple more short stories as I take a break from my novel. A very short one indeed. I want to make sure I step away from my work and be able to come back to it in a week’s time. It’s good to have fresh eyes.
Below is a short story I wrote one night, due to a writing prompt. The prompt itself jolted my creativity and right away I saw this scene. Enjoy.

As I scanned the dinner party of my best friend’s pre-wedding day, my gaze landed on a gorgeous muscled man, sitting diagonal from me. His delicious tan body could practically be seen underneath his tight white button up. Our eyes met and I bit my lip as I watched him.
His stare bore so deep into my soul, I could feel him touching me from afar, picking my clothes apart. The room filled up a scorching heat, it danced around my body, sinking deep below… and then, our intimate stare quickly became interrupted.
“Don’t,” Amelia scolded me, as her face obstructed my beautiful view. “Anyone but him. Jane, you don’t want to get involved, you’ll burn into his flame.”
“My, my, how tempting Amelia.” Her warning intrigued me even further as I arched an eyebrow.
Amelia is my best friend and tomorrow she’s marrying the love of her life. She is the type of friend who has the perfect life; in the precise sequence that society demands we live our life. First you marry, buy the perfect white picket fence house, and then have children to fill up each room. Me? I’m the complete opposite. My desire to be in a committed relationship, no longer exists. Children? Nope. But there’s something so beautiful and harmless about Amelia. At times, it is hard to take her serious.
“I mean it! Don’t say I didn’t warn you if you end up hurt like you did last year,” she said as her fiancé, Jeff, pulled her up for their dinner toast.
Her final warning made me cringe as the thought of my previous flame burned across my memory. Although he was hot, he sure did screw me over. Or should I say she, when I caught him cheating on me. In our own fucking bed. That bastard.
Maybe Amelia is right, I should stay away from him. Even if his god like figure tempts me, and those beautiful grey eyes shout sex. The type of sex that makes me want to swipe off the entire dining table, crawl over to him, and have him fuck me at the edge.
“... and to the love of my life, cheers to our new chapter. May we always find our souls coming back to each other time and time again,” said Amelia, as she finished her toast. Each table was filled with champagne glasses. Their guests clinked them in unison, begging for the couple to kiss.
Jeff took Amelia into his arms and swung her low to passionately kiss her red stained lips; the crowd went wild as they shouted and celebrated along with them.
Lost in my thoughts, I spot him across the way, he was as motionless as I was. His deep stare watched my every move as the group around us frolicked around.
Releasing myself from his look to avoid any further sexual frustration, I stood to join the multiple people huddled around the main wedding table. I hugged Amelia and her soon-to-be husband, Jeff.
“Truly a match made in Heaven, or so they say,” I tell them sarcastically but lovingly as I kiss each of them on the cheek, smushing their faces together.
“Thank you, I know how much you love weddings,” Amelia teases.
Laughing, I look back at where my mystery man was sitting, but the lonely chair didn’t reveal him. Damn it, where could he have gone? I thought to myself, completely disappointed.
“Dance with me,” he whispered behind my neck, instantly warming my inner self in ecstasy. His low seductive voice lingered through my neck and entered my ear. I turned around to face him. His beautiful long lashes went on for miles and they complimented his demanding grey eyes.
“Nice touch, but I don’t take orders. Especially not from men like you,” I said with a playful smirk on my face.
“You’ve practically been begging for a dance with me. I watched you during dinner. You practically took my clothes off with your eyes. Now, let’s dance.”
“You’re quite the aggressive one. I don’t even know you.”
“Johnny,” he said as he reached his hand out for mine.
Silence loomed between us as I stared deep into his big hungry eyes. I refused to give away my name just as I refused to take his hand. Well, I don’t want to make things too easy for him. I want to see him work for it, to see if he deserves me. His head tilted at my stubbornness.
“I’ll find out your name.” He leaned in to whisper, “as well as the color of your panties, as I take them off”
His confidence and his words, the combination, a perfect soaking concoction, as I clung to every word he spoke. I pictured myself over him, completely naked. Oh, he would look so delicious laying in my bed.
No man has ever given me this type of reaction. Do I play along? It seems like the worst idea imaginable, but the hottest, most sinful one.
My breath quickened and it was noticeable. Like the lion who preys on a deer. Their jaw clamps onto its victim. And in the height of their death, the deer’s uncontrollable breaths begin to slow. I want to be the deer to his lion ways.
