Synopsis

It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn't be broken...no matter how hard we tried.

I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, his struggle to keep me innocent, and infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I'd learn that no matter what you achieve in life, it means nothing if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn't matter. My older sister saw him next.

Book one in a completed USA TODAY bestselling love saga.

Manning + Lake. It was quite the forbidden romance I didn’t see coming. Manning was very protective over Lake, because of his past, which makes him all the more sexy. Although this story is a forbidden romance, it really peaked my interest. Originally I heard this on audible, and immediately, once the story was over, I purchased book two! It truly is a slow burn type of romance, and if you’re looking for a stand alone book with instant gratification at the end, this isn’t it. This story takes you on Manning and Lake’s journey, and I’m hopping aboard.

What I Enjoyed:

  • Character development is something I always look for in books, because it makes the story much strong. This is one of those books, where the characters have a very deep and relatable backstory. One of us have either been shafted in life, or have people who control us to a certain degree.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Lake’s sister, Tiffany. This isn’t a true dislike though, because Tiffany is necessary to the story. And just like an actor who portrays someone hatable, if you truly hate them by the end of the movie, they have done their job well.

Rating: 💋💋💋💋💋/ 5

  • I absolutely am smitten with this forbidden romance!

Steamy Rating: 💋💋💋/ 5

  • It’s a slow burn, which is not one that I normally read. I like to live on the fast lane, but this has its moments. I look forward to seeing this rating go up as I read the other books.
